"Seven stars. Watching Griffith's Civil War shorts, one might get the idea that everyone fighting in the War did so just down the block from their family home. A great narrative convenience, that! But to the point. This film rehashes a lot of the themes from "In the Border States," but does so in a less compelling way. Here it's the mother of a (Confederate) soldier who hides a (Union) soldier from the pursuit of the other side. Despite some very strong reasons for her not to. None of the acting is worth much note here. Kate Bruce and Dorothy West both did much better work ..."
