Studio head Carl Laemmle frequently gave jobs to inexperienced relatives. One of the boss's newly arrived immigrant kinsmen was given the job of assistant cameraman. In one scene a building was supposed to be blown up. Everything went well, but the new employee forgot to uncover the lens cap from the camera. Unfortunately the building had to be rebuilt and blown up a second time.
