Many of the extras who played Mexican soldiers were recruited at the local employment office and paid $2.00 a day (by contrast, Sterling Waters, who played Davy Crocket, was paid $20 a day). The film was shot without dialog; the soundtrack consists entirely of narration and an organ score.
