"The film tells the story of the real marquis of Salamanca from his arrival to Madrid in 1830s to his death in 1883. Although not historically accurated (mainly in his personal life facts) it is an interesting biopic showing some historical events such as the origin of Spanish railways and marquis' efforts to be its pioneer (although, as stated in the film, at last the first line was the Barcelona-Mataró) and the creation of the salt monopoly. Also the intend of beginning a new, more cosmopolitan Madrid in the style of Paris' boulevard Saint Germaine that finally ended up as a single ..."
