"This cartoon, nominated for an Oscar, is part of a series featuring The Fox and The Crow by UPA and Columbia. This is not your grandfather's Robin Hood at all! Thoroughly delightful from start to finish. This was out on one of the Columbia Classics series of tapes and is well worth hunting up. UPA did some of the most interesting and creative shorts around in the late 1940s-1950s and almost everything they did was at least very good and much is excellent! Highly recommended..."

UPA's first theatrical short for Columbia Pictures, which brings us Mr. Magoo and Gerald McBoing Boing shorts, lasted from 1948 to 1959 before Columbia's predecessor Screen Gems Cartoons ended in 1949 due to budget problems. Meanwhile, Hanna-Barbera took over the contract for distributing their shorts for Loopy De Loop from 1959 to 1965 after Columbia losing its contract from UPA for the animated theatrical shorts and began releasing television cartoons from 1959 and onwards.
