Production commenced in 1951 with Renzo Rossellini listed as composer. Mario Nascimbene in his autobiography noted that he scored the movie in early 1953 at which time it was called Transito vietato (No Through Road). The film opened at the Missori cinema in Milan on 23 February 1955 as Operazione mitra (Operation Tommy Gun). Milan newspaper Corriere della Sera reviewed it the following day as a new release. The film later had another change of title, re-issued as L'incubo è finito (The Nightmare is Over).
