"An unfortunate last film by the great Vittorio De Sica, unbearably sentimental, boring and totally phoney. Even if set in some of Italy's loveliest places, with impeccable costumes and décor in the best De Sica tradition and boasting an excelent cast, the film simply doesn't work. Pirandello's powerful love story is massacred by a script that does it anything but honor. How this infallible mixture of good actors and a top director can reach the almost laughable is truly amazing. What a waste...!..."
