"Michael Haneke has always been known as an extremely pessimistic director. His films aren't only bleak from start to finish, but what little light is there is usually beaten to a pulp. Here we actually get to experience some genuine joy. Haneke is embracing life and all aspects of it as he tells the story of 50 year old Elisabeth and her visit to her aging father. I loved the way Elizabeth is shown more or less as a young woman, though it is from time to time pointed out that she is aging you never think of her as old.
