Loosely based upon an incident which took place in 1969 during hurricane Camille, where between 8 to 24 the residents of the Richelieu Manor Apartments in Pass Christian Mississippi tried to ride out the hurricane in their apartment complex in spite of warnings to evacuate, and were killed when tidal surges washed it away. It had been said that many of the residents held a "hurricane party" during the storm, but the accuracy of that claim and the actual number of victims has come into doubt in recent years.
