"Other have gone into great detail to discuss this movie. The movie itself is quite striking visually, employing darkness and light for effect. It, for me, is Ibsen's most complex and depressing play, with multiple characters living in a dark reality, unable to let go of their secret angst. The young girl, Hedvig, is caught in events which she cannot control and all happiness is taken from her. She is the truly tragic figure in all this.
