Touches on serious issues with a light touch

"A bit ahead of its time with a plea for simplifying life, this telefilm covers what could have been a serious topic with a comedic tone. None of the drama ever gets truly serious; you know everything will end happily. The problem was not that Harper's character was wrong to be a working mother. In fact, at one point, her daughter chastises her for having given up her career--she feels betrayed. But all manage to achieve moral equilibrium by the end of the film. The performances are fine, if never particularly deep; the same can be said for the film itself...."
