Based on the real-life fire which took place on May 4, 1988 at the First Interstate Bank Tower in downtown Los Angeles, California. The lobby scenes were shot at the neighboring Wells Fargo Bank building. Years later, Wells Fargo acquired First Interstate Bank and its subsidiaries.
