Worthwhile jazz concert tape
"My review was written in January 1991 after watching the show on Kultur video cassette. Taped in 1982 in concert at the Smithsonian, this document of the late jazz great Art Blakey is a must for collectors due to its vintage performance by the Marsalis brothers. Wynton, since lionized as a leader in jazz in his own right, is in particularly fine form here, displaying uncharacteristically fiery chops that recall the young Freddie Hubbard in Blakey's '60s band. He also excels in a lengthy solo on Kurt Weill's "My Ship" though his a capella coda to this song strays from..."
