Carlo Verdone stated that he got the idea for this movie during a promotional tour in Belgium with actress Claudia Gerini, one of his co-stars in the successful Viaggi di nozze (1995). Verdone, who got along very well with Gerini in the first movie, was so impressed by the Belgian atmosphere that he wanted to set a film there.
