💡 Did You Know?

The space race between the US and USSR was in full swing when this short was released. Sputnik 1, the first artificial object sent into space, had been launched by the Soviets two years prior.

There are several references to intergalactic adventure here, including the name Cape Carnival, a spoof of Cape Canaveral, a tiny Sputnik 1 type design satellite passed by the gator, and a Russian sounding dog. Laika, the first dog astronaut, was a female, however, and was sent into space on Sputnik 2 in 1957.
