According to legend, the Fuerabamba community suffered drought after Spanish conquistadors captured Wamani, the spirit of the land, and imprisoned him in their hacienda. The Indigenous people lost their farms and turned to cattle raiding. For generations they tried to storm the hacienda to free the spirit, but were always repelled. Now Chief Laulico leads another attack, successfully seizing the hacienda, but fails to find Wamani. When the enraged colonists crucify his friend, the community must decide whether to continue the search or abandon further assaults.
