The Caissons Go Rolling Along

There are quite a few movies of the parade thrown in New York City for Admiral Dewey -- Dewey of Manillia. This is one I have not seen before. It is, typical for the series, a still camera shooting -- in this case, the camera is shooting four artillery cannons on their horse-drawn carriages, with soldiers marching in between the conveyances.

Just in case I wasn&apos;t clear, the cameras are shooting, not the guns. There are crowds civilians between the cameras and the guns, and it would have been unwise to shoot off the cannons. There hasn&apos;t been significant military action in Manhattan since the Draft Riots during the Civil War.

James White was in charge of this, and for once he didn&apos;t obscure the parade itself with the crowds.

I can&apos;t easily find any route listings for the parade, nor can I tell from the background, but I suspect it was on Fifth Avenue and began or ended at the Dewey Arch in Madison Square Park.
