Another plotless period piece by Joe D&apos;Amato

I think I am one of the few Joe D&apos;Amato fans who pay attention to his later porn period (1993-1998), the most prolific part of his career, in which the Roman filmmaker directed over 100 films. Most fans out there are only interested in his few contributions to the horror genre or his softcore efforts, and I can understand them, as the director did XXX for alimentary reasons only and his lack of interest influenced in the final product.

The porn films of D&apos;Amato, although often cited as &quot;porn with plot&quot;, usually had a minimum of story and, except for the good photography, suffered from a laziness in their confectioning. That being said, watching them is not easy at all, especially if one is not exactly interested in the main &quot;purpose&quot; of the genre.

This &quot;Goya, La Maja Desnuda&quot; was one of his many &quot;adaptations&quot; of historical characters. The &quot;subject matter&quot; here was the legendary Spanish painter Francisco de Goya (1746 - 1828). Obviously, except for a vague mention to his auditive problems and the exposition of some of his works, there is nothing here that reflects the character&apos;s real life, even because the maximum of plot we have are the usual few minutes of stupid dialogues.

The only thing that stands out is the talent of D&apos;Amato in the cinematography. At the time this film was made, he was already shooting on video, a medium that was very limited aesthetically wise, but even so he still managed to create some interesting camera angles. It is really a shame that he saw porn as nothing more than an endless marathon of genital close-ups, as he had the technical skills to reach a lot more.

In the cast, typically made of expressionless models (not actors), the Hungarian Julia Taylor is the most beautiful and attractive one, in my opinion.

The only copy available is in Spanish and I imagine it is the original language, as the film was apparently shot in Spain with the participation of the local company IFG (International Film Group).
