"It's surprising to think it, but in 1978, Depatie-Freleng was still releasing new cartoons into movie theaters, the last cartoon producers still doing that. I expect there were very few theaters still offering a full program that would call for cartoons, so it was probably a matter of fulfilling contracts. In the meantime, they could also release them onto TV. Which probably accounts for the lean graphic designs, and the poor writing and backwards attitudes of Crazylegs Crane trying to catch a firefly to bring home something for the family to eat...."
