In December 1975, President Gerald Ford signed the Metric Conversion Act into law, giving official sanction to efforts to transition the United States to using the metric system of measurement. Ford's successor Jimmy Carter established the U.S. Metric Board (USMB), which sponsored a number of relevant public service announcements on radio and television. The USMB was the sponsor for this animated series. In 1982, Carter's successor Ronald Reagan dissolved the USMB and largely abandoned the efforts to introduce the metric system.
