Not bad...just not THE Hercule Poirot.

&quot;Hercule Poirot&quot; was a pilot episode for a TV series that never came to be. And, like many such rejected pilots, it was later shown on an anthology show in order to cover the costs of making it...or at least to minimize the expenses.

&quot;Hercule Poirot&quot; is a tough show to endorse today. No, it&apos;s not because the show is bad but because the David Suchet shows about Poirot are so perfect...too perfect for folks who love this show to enjoy seeing this earlier and inferior incarnation. Again...I am NOT saying this 1962 version is bad...but it&apos;s just not in the same league at the later series. This is much like Sherlock Holmes. While there have been several recent Holmes series, the old Jeremy Brett versions are just too perfect for the other versions to approach in quality.

This version of Poirot is set in the modern times (whereas the BBC version was set mostly in the 1920s-30s). Poirot is played by Martin Gabel...and like David Suchet isn&apos;t Belgian or even French. He is fine...just not the spot-on perfect Poirot...like Suchet.

The story is about a rich man who has disappeared. Poirot makes a bet that he can solve the case without ever leaving his apartment. Naturally, we know how it all will end.

Overall, an interesting for folks to see today but one that isn&apos;t great nor a must-see. Competently made...but not exactly Agatha Christie&apos;s Poirot!
