Eddie&apos;s teacher sends a note home for his father. It says that Eddie isn&apos;t applying himself to his potential in reading. Tom thinks it is because he reads to Eddie so much that he isn&apos;t interested at school. He thinks that the responsibility of Eddie&apos;s very own library card will inspire him. It works and now Eddie consumes himself with learning from a book. He finishes the book and his teacher says his reading is improving. When he receives a notice from the library that the book is overdue, he admits he forgot, but can&apos;t find the book. His friend Alice (Lisa Gerritsen, &quot;My World and Welcome to It&quot;, &quot;The Mary Tyler Moore Show&quot;) scares him into thinking he will go to jail. She says the only thing he can do is turn himself into the police. Mrs. Livingston tells him a Japanese proverb that translates to &quot;I would not believe the first person who tells me something&quot;. Still, Eddie goes to turn himself in at the police station, but a lesson comes elsewhere.

Moral: With responsibility comes consequences- but don&apos;t be afraid of help.

Tom tells Eddie that having a library card comes with some responsibility, which Eddie apparently forgets as the book becomes overdue. What's worse however is that he can't find the book. Eddie turns his room upside down to locate the book, but to no avail. Eddie's friend, Alice, tells Eddie that he's going to go to jail for losing the book. Since Tom is too busy when Eddie tries to tell him he lost the book, Eddie decides the right thing to do is to turn himself into the police. The news of this act obviously gets back to Tom, who has a heart to heart with Eddie about the lost book. But after all is said and done, Tom has two apologies to make to Eddie, first for not being available for Eddie during his time of need (when Eddie was trying to tell him about the missing book), and second because Tom actually was the one who mistakenly "lost" the book.
