Winklers: Part 1

I didn&apos;t know what a winkler was, good episode.

Mr O&apos;Connor is attempting to prosecute Robert Sims and George Bell, who are accused of harassing Eddie and Sarah Taylor. Sims and Bell were hired as Winklers, hired to get the pair out of their house and get historic rent. Eddie Taylor gives evidence, explaining that they broke in, threatened him, demanded his old rent book, assaulted him and stole money.

It&apos;s quite light hearted, I&apos;ve watched a couple of serious episodes, this one however had a lighter tone, largely due to the comic prowess of Arthur English.

I had no idea what a winkler was, thankfully they describe here, someone who avoids violence and uses psychological warfare.

I quite like Mr Salter, an apt name for him, he&apos;s well spoken, devoid of humour, but clearly spoken and had a cracking delivery.

It would be two years before Arthur English would be cast as Mr Harman in Are you being served, but did the producers perhaps watch him here to get a glimpse of his comic prowess? I think he&apos;s wonderful here, his delivery is a joy to watch, this guy knows how to exaggerate a little.
