The story is inspired by issue #5 of the Fantastic Four comic book, titled "Prisoners of Doctor Doom!", released on April 10, 1962. The origin of Doom is based on the story "Origin of Doctor Doom!" from Fantastic Four Annual 2, released July 2, 1964. Both were written by Stan Lee, drawn by Jack Kirby and published by Marvel Comics.
