Classic TV Xmas Countdown Episode #5
by kgraovac2023-12-20
9/10

"The girls exchange homemade Xmas presents, then later are held captive by a gun-toting Santa at the Crisis Center where Rose works. THE GOLDEN GIRLS produced two Xmas episodes during the 7-season run and this is definitely the one to watch. The jokes are hilarious and the script is near-perfect save for a few gags that don't land (mostly in the second act). It's ripe with great character moments, like Dorothy's reaction to receiving a maple syrup spigot, to Blanche sneaking the mall Santa into her bedroom and later the sequence where she gifts her friends with The Men of Blanc..."

💡 Did You Know?

During rehearsals for this episode unbeknownst to the actresses, several members of the prop department had photos taken of themselves in exaggerated erotic nude or semi-nude poses and compiled them into the prop calendar "The Men of Blanche's Boudoir." The director had it filmed, and when the Girls saw the calendar for the first time on set They promptly fell into hysterical laughter. Afterwards each woman received her own copy of the calendar, signed by the prop department. McClanahan's copy was auctioned after her death, selling for over $4000.
