"At this viewing, the plot is extremely poignant given the ethos of the story: that justice be administered equally to all, that there not be a single eyelet of difference concerning who pays for their crimes. To hear Jack McCoy specify this requirement for us to stay woven as a society is to ache for a time when our collective innocence weren't broken by the election of and non punishment towards a convicted felon as our country's leader. This episode appears to be based on the 1997 Samuel Sheinbein case. Sheinbein had fled to Israel to avoid prosecution for the murder of Alfredo Tello. In his case, the Israeli Supreme Court refused to extradite him.
