"Many doubting Thomas's here. Many seem to forget this is in the 1800's, when they knew virtually nothing about the brain. The psychiatrist even said psychiatry was a new field. Since the 1800's, there have been many cases similar to James, where people have awakened from long comas. I'm pretty sure even some with virtually no permanent brain damage.
