As a fan of Winnie the Pooh, &apos;The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh&apos; was always one of my favourite shows as a child. Not all childhood favourites have held up, but &apos;The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh&apos; is one of the strongest examples of those that have.

While the original three 60s-70s short films (&apos;Honey Tree&apos;, &apos;Blustery Day&apos; and &apos;Tigger Too&apos;) and the 1977 &apos;The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh&apos; are just a little better, &apos;The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh&apos; is one of the Winnie the Pooh franchise&apos;s high points. Both &quot;Luck Amok&quot; and &quot;Magic Earmuffs&quot; are fantastic episodes, with the former as said in the review title being one of the show&apos;s funniest and the latter being one of the most touching.

The animation in both episodes is very bright, well drawn and colourful, everything looking lush, detailed and smooth. The music is playfully jaunty and beautifully orchestrated, sadder moments with poignant and particularly lush and emotional scoring and the more playful moments with a jaunty touch. The theme tune is very rousing and one of the catchiest theme songs of any animated show of the late 80s.

Writing has a perfect mix of whimsy, drollness, wit, charm and childhood innocence. This is especially true in &quot;Luck Amok&quot;, where some of the best of the dialogue is absolutely hilarious and some of the most memorable of &apos;The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh&apos;. Highlights include &quot;Now if I&apos;m Piglet but he&apos;s Tigger and you&apos;re Pooh then Rabbit must be.../Oh keep quiet!&quot;, Pooh&apos;s &quot;We can&apos;t let him﻿ leave. Not for seven years! He&apos;ll miss my birthday&quot; and &quot;TIGGGGGGEEEEERRRRRR!&quot;, Rabbit going down the drain is every bit as funny. &quot;Magic Earmuffs&quot; is very poignant in this regard, where one really identifies with Piglet and is happy when he overcomes his fear of skating.

Both stories are simple but lovingly and charmingly told, &quot;Luck Amok&quot; is non-stop comic brilliance while &quot;Magic Earmuffs&quot; is almost on the same level of &quot;Find Her Keep Her&quot; and &quot;A Very Very Large Animal&quot; on the emotional spectrum.

All the characters are wonderful, especially Tigger, Pooh and Piglet. Love the love and loyalty Christopher Robin shows. All the voice acting is faultless too, who can go wrong with Jim Cummings and the incomparable Paul Winchell? Overall, two fantastic but wonderfully contrasting episodes. 10/10 Bethany Cox
