"Neal Burns has never met bride Betty Compson's mother. Miss Compson is visiting the older lady because of her husband's death, and sends a telegram she's bringing the lady home to stay for a few days. When Burns gets home, there's no one there, so he goes out to dinner, where he meets the old lady while his wife is table hopping, and they get along well, since he doesn't know who she is.
