"Maybe writer Roy Clarke knew that actor Brian Wilde was planning to leave and realised that steps were needed to expand the cast. We have seen Wesley return, bigger parts for Ivy, Wally and Nora in recent times. In this episode we are introduced to Howard, Pearl and Marina, characters that will stay until the show ends. We first encounter Howard, Clegg's neighbour cleaning the windows lamenting his plain life when as a 16 year old he planned to elope with a 30 year old showgirl while on holiday. As usual the trio are walking in the countryside, making fun of Foggy's army exploits, ..."
