"As far as the recent My Little Pony direct to video releases go, Friends are Never Far Away is not quite as good Princess Promenade and A Very Pony Place but is one of the better ones. Some of the dialogue is corny, and I think it could have been a tad longer. However, it is well-animated, the older episodes had more dynamics in the colour schemes but the colourful vibrancy here is well-suited to the tone of the story. Speaking of the story, it is cute, engaging and means well with a good, non-preachy moral. The music is catchy and whimsical, and the characters are likable and better developed..."
