This episode originally aired in 2002, I&apos;m watching it in 2019, and that indicates how long the public has been provided with bad information &amp; false claims regarding firearms. In this episode, investigators supposedly search for all the people in Virginia who have purchased AK-47 assault rifles, but unless you have a federal firearms license (FFL) it&apos;s illegal to have an AK47 in the Untied States. They are &quot;selective fire&quot; firearms which means they can fire semi-auto AND full auto, and full-auto firearms have been illegal in the U.S. since the 1930&apos;s. A FFL holder can own one, but can&apos;t sell it to a member of the general public.

The episode also refers to a semi-auto AK47, but there is no semi-auto only version, and it is stated that along with the Russian military, the Chinese military uses AK47s -- no they don&apos;t -- they make their own version, called Type 56. The is also a Chinese-made semi-auto only rifle that looks like an AK47, the MAK90 &amp; it is legal to own one of those in the US because it cannot be converted to full-auto.

Also, the term &quot;assault rifle&quot; is often used in the episode, but by definition, an assault rifle is selective-fire -- there is no such thing as a semi-auto only assault rifle. Note the news media now refers to &quot;assault-type&quot; rifles -- apparently someone in the &quot;news&quot; media knows the difference between an actual military selective-fire assault rifle &amp; a semi-auto version that looks similar.

If you didn&apos;t know better, watching this episode would make you think that AK47s are a dime a dozen &amp; anyone can go to a gun store or gun show &amp; buy one -- no you can&apos;t. If you don&apos;t have a FFL it&apos;s a federal felony to have one in your possession &amp; FFLs are not easy to get -- among other things you have to go thru a very thorough FBI background check that can take months

I really have a problem with shows like this one (there are MANY) because of all the false information that&apos;s presented. It&apos;s either intentional, or the producers know nothing about firearms &amp; if that&apos;s the case, they shouldn&apos;t be making shows about them.
