"Seeing the Munsters outside in sunlight is just super weird. They're totally out of their element and it shows. This is a very weird cash grab that is ultimately just boring. The Macguffin is that Eddie is looking for a new pet. Why on Earth they think an amusement park/zoo is the place to find that isn't quite clear. It makes the family look stupid, which they aren't on the show. Aside from Herman being dopey. Lily is far too smart to think they can really get a pet at the zoo. This is dumb! Lol...."

Shot on film, the special was believed to be lost for many years, with only a commercial for the broadcast surviving. Subsequently, a weathered kinescope print was unearthed, made available for viewing at the Paley Center in New York, and surreptitiously made its way online before being released on DVD by MPI Home Video in 2022.
