Reading Irvin stone's 'Lust for life' on celebrated painter Vincent Van Gogh and listening to Don McLean's song 'Starry Starry Night' made a deep impression on me. In many ways there are many parallels between Vincent Van Gogh and Jangarh Singh Shyam. Both were genius artists -who were ahead of their times and remained largelyunknown during their lifetimes. Both suffered mental agony and torment . For all these reasons I find Jangarh's story an immensely important one.This film is a musical tribute of Jangarh- a ballad that tells his life story...the chance discovery of a pioneer who single handedly created an internationally recognized contemporary tribal art movement that continues to flourish under his successors. This film reveals the prejudices and challenges of modernity faced by contemporary tribals. The film will also show their resilience and capacity for masterful innovation - adapting themselves and their traditional culture to new circumstances and livelihoods within a globalizing India and the post modern international art world.
