THE CASE OF THE MYSTERY SQUIRREL.

Wacky comedy of errors episode. There&apos;s a little mystery on campus as to what happened to $41.37 that vanished from Mr. Pomfritt&apos;s (William Schallert) desk. Now, he has no money to pay his bills.

At the same time, Maynard happens to befriend a squirrel(?), naming him Herbie --who gives him $41.37?

The plot thickens.

Panicky Dobie grabs the loot, in attempt to save his bud&apos;s &quot;reputation,&quot; and promptly gets caught red-handed by Mr. Pomfritt. A fate worse than death.

He immediately takes it up with Herb who claims there&apos;s a logical explanation for what his son did.

It&apos;s all HIS fault. He has neglected Dobie since he was a child, which has brought about this terrible act. Accordingly, Herb attempts to &quot;re-do&quot; Dobie&apos;s childhood years and --among other fun things -- offer him a piggy-back ride! Why not?

Yes, there IS a sane ending. Herbie is finally exposed. Watch how it all happens.

Super sitcom material (and snappy dialogue) from series writer Dean Riesner, who began his career as a child actor, appearing with Charlie Chaplin. Dean later wrote DIRTY HARRY for Clint Eastwood.

By the way, the goofy squirrel looks like a goofy hand puppet (up close) when Maynard attempts to pet him. In the money department, Mr. Pomfritt&apos;s missing 41 dollars would equal about 400 dollars today.
