"I subscribed to Starz (a streaming wasteland) for the express purpose of watching the two episodes of "Three Women" directed by Cate Shortland. These focus on the Maggie (British newcomer Gabrielle Creevy) character, her sexual awakening in Hawaii, her seduction by her high school teacher, and its aftermath. Shortland is in her element here, having dealt with s related scenario in _Somersault_, in which the teenage girl protagonist finds herself in highly ambiguous sexual relationship too. (_The Berlin Syndrome_ also deals with related themes.) Creevy is even better Abbie Cornish in..."

It is speculated that the reason behind Showtime's decision to drop airing the series was concerns regarding its graphic sexual content, as the network was going through a content re-evaluation by its parent company Paramount at the time. In February 2023, Starz bought the rights to the series from Showtime and ended up airing the show on September 2024.
