The logger's occupation has been the inspiration for innumerable tales of adventure. In this feature, showing cypress logging in the swamps of Florida, it is revealed as an occupation that demands a high degree of strength and skill of the men engaged in it. The operation of converting cypress, known as the "wood eternal," into lumber, commences six months before the tree is actually felled. "Timber lookers" locate the trees and girdle them in order that the sap dry, thus killing the trees. This is necessary so that the logs when sent down the river, may float. Succeeding scenes show how the trees are felled and sent to the mill. Here they are converted into shingles, lathes, etc.
