"This is quite a familiar situation, worked out unusually well in this instance. The young blind man is loved by a homely girl. He is a great lover of beauty and when he regains his sight she fears to have him see her. Indeed, when he does get sight of her his actions were far from heroic, as he fairly runs from her presence. Later, however, he learns to love her for herself alone.
