"In the world of literature, Ireland has it's "Ulysses", Russia it's "War and Peace", and China it's "A dream of Red Mansions" This 1987 TV adaption is said to be the definitive one. It Is I confess rather slow, and I needed to take a break from it, before finishing it off. I did find it hard to keep track of some of the characters. There are so many deaths in the last 5 or 6 episodes, that you might find it hard not to be a little amused by it. But the acting is exemplary...."
