Approach of Winter

The time-lapse animated short film «Approach of Winter» illustrates seasonal changes in light and landscapes in Northern Norway during a four months period, from the ending of the midnight sun to the beginning of the Polar Night. Following two months of midnight sun the sun finally descends below the horizon, henceforward creating colourful sunrises and sunsets. The first sub-zero nights follow and the opening snow at the highest summits are the first signs of the next approaching winter. Nights become dark enough to see Northern Lights again. Leaves and landscapes turn into sunsets-colours just to be stripped naked by autumn storms and covered by the cold white dark of the polar winter. The first ponds start to freeze over, followed by creeks, lakes and fresh water rich fjord basins. Finally, snow lastingly reaches down to shorelines, while the very last sunrays of the year merely manage to illuminate the highest clouds.
