The Making of Tapestry

This series of pictures was taken in one of the largest establishments at Tours, the great textile center of France, and gives an interesting description of the processes employed in present-day manufacture of tapestry. The design to be embroidered is first planned on paper and afterwards reproduced on a material by perforation. The subject is then cut out and stuck on a carpet or other foundation, and the design embroidered by machinery. The making of the tasseled fringe, which is sewn around carpets, is also illustrated, and the film ends showing the great shuttle machines at work.
