This was the first film in which Syrian actor Tayem Hassan played a role using an Egyptian accent rather than his native one. Industry rumors allege that before being offered to Hassan, the role was turned down by several Egyptian actors for fear that playing such an unpopular historical figure could amount to career suicide. The producers finally turned to a Syrian to do it.
