During the first few seasons of &quot;American Experience&quot;, the show often looked at seldom talked about individuals instead of bigger and more familiar subjects. Folks like Angie Debo, James Agee and Bascom Lamar Lunsford would never have been talked about anywhere else but on this show, as they aren&apos;t exactly household names nor folks you learn about in history classes.

Bascom Lamar Lunsford was a man with an unusual passion. While it was popular (and still is) to look down on the Appalachian people, he celebrated it and did much to point out the good in these poor folks. In particular, he loved their music....bluegrass and folk music. To chronical this music, he zigzagged all over this portion of America...staying with folks and making music with them.

While I&apos;ll admit that this is far from the most interesting episode of &quot;American Experience&quot;, it is important because otherwise there just wouldn&apos;t be any sort of memory of these people and their long gone way of life. Of mild interest to most....of huge interest to ethnologists, sociologists and the like.
