Al B. Quirky, the wacky banana-obsessed acceptor of the award for Best Mention of Albuquerque in a Matador Cartoon (on behalf of Bully for Bugs (1953)), bears a passing resemblance to 1980s-era 'Weird Al' Yankovic, who may have been an inspiration for the character (one Al is "Weird", the other is "Quirky"). Coincidentally, "Weird Al" released a song titled "Albuquerque" on his 1999 album 'Running with Scissors'. The arrow through Al B. Quirky's head may also be a reference to comedian Steve Martin, who often incorporated a novelty arrow-through-the-head in his 1970s stand-up act.
