"How it happened? Well, what happened very simply was that this show started on one of the more obscure BBC channels and then did very well via word of mouth, before having its harder more coarser edges well and truly sanded down, making its way onto BBC1. It then went from being a rather dark comedy to being more of a comedy drama, and it's often forgotten that the 3rd series was seen as a bit of a drop in quality and that they were 'getting out while the going was good'.
