Tender drama on life and death!

I really admire how the story doesn&apos;t just zero in on one single person&apos;s struggles; instead, it beautifully weaves together the experiences of a group of lonely individuals.

Each character is grappling with their own involuntary solitude, carrying the weight of past pains and regrets. They&apos;re all just trying to navigate the tumultuous sea of life, desperately holding onto hope and finding reasons that help them justify their helpless existence.

Whilst the narrative is steeped in melancholy, there&apos;s a strange uplifting quality to it that I find quite surprising. It manages to evoke a strong sense of tranquility and hints of a plausible path of redemption for every lost soul, making the storytelling feel more cathartic than simply heart-wrenching.

Having said that, this &apos;uplifting&apos; tone could also be seen as a drawback. The story could have benefitted greatly from diving deeper into the characters and their diverse personalities, maybe offering more elaboration on their journeys and experiences would have opened more pathways for the characters to walk on.

Takeshi Yamada arrives in a small village in the Hokuriku region. There, he begins to work at a small factory which makes shiokara (salted fish paste). Through the introduction of the CEO of the factory, he begins to live in at an old and cheap apartment building. One day, his apartment building neighbor Kozo Shimada visits Takeshi and asks to take a bath in his bathroom. Since then, Takeshi begins to make relations with the residents at the apartment building and he becomes friends with Kozo. Later, Kozo learns the secret on why Takeshi came to the village.
