Executive producer Elizabeth Banks was inspired to center the series around the antagonist Bumper after seeing the Marvel series Loki (2021). "They took a villain from Marvel and they gave him a television show, a whole backstory. We thought, can we do that with Adam Devine's character, Bumper? He's kind of a lovable villain."
