&apos;14 Love Letters&apos; (2022)

Opening thoughts: The 2022 Hallmark Movies and Mysteries output has varied, most of the previous films in the block actually being very impressive. Especially &apos;Colour My World with Love&apos;, which is a strong contender for the best film that Hallmark has done and the most relatable film of a year full of films with easy to relate to execution of relatable and mature subjects. &apos;Cut, Colour, Murder&apos; being the one misfire of the previous 2022 Hallmark Movies and Mysteries films in my view.

&apos;14 Love Letters&apos; is a sweet, charming film that is worth a look. It is not one of the best 2022 Hallmark Movies and Mysteries films (&apos;Colour My World with Love), neither is it one of the worst (&apos;Cut, Colour, Murder&apos;). There are also better 2022 Hallmark films, such as &apos;Colour My World with Love&apos;, &apos;The Wedding Veil&apos; and &apos;Two Tickets to Paradise&apos;. As well as worse, like &apos;Butlers in Love&apos;, &apos;Road Trip Romance&apos;, &apos;Cut, Colour, Murder&apos; and &apos;Where Your Heart Belongs&apos;. &apos;14 Love Letters&apos; is somewhere around high middle in my view.

Bad things: It&apos;s not perfect. Did feel that it was a bit of a slow starter, with some awkward dialogue and the characters were not easy to warm to at first and seemed a little on the uptight side.

Did feel too that the ending was a little too pat and it was not too hard to figure out what the final decision was going to be.

Good things: A lot is good though. It is compensated hugely by the three very engaging and amiable leads, who have a natural and genuine chemistry that never felt forced or too subdued. The supporting cast are all solid and interact with each other very believably. It is a very nice looking film too, the scenery really does entrance and the photography doesn&apos;t cheapen it at all. The music fits nicely and appeals stylistically, not coming as intrusive or over-used.

Furthermore, the dialogue is sharp enough and flows naturally, while also having the right amount of sentiment (not too much in quality and quantity). The story may be predictable and not perfect in pace, but it is incredibly charming, sweet without being too sugary and very heart-warming. There is a nice lightness to it too. The premise could have been very cheesy if not executed right or too schmaltzy, have seen both with this premise and similar, but neither came over as too much generally.

Closing thoughts: Overall, not great but quite good.
