The Last Tightrope Dancer in Armenia

The Last Tightrope dancer in Armenia tells the story of Zhora (76) and Knyaz (75), who were once the most celebrated masters of tightrope dancers in Armenia. Today they are the only surviving masters who can keep the ancient art of tightrope dancing alive against the currents of contemporary society. Having been envious rivals throughout their lives, they now have to share the same hope - that the tightrope student will carry on their lifeÂ’s work. Hovsep, a 17 year-old orphan, who was adopted by Zhora, has to decide, whether to accept the role of the last tightrope dancer in a society that has abandoned both him and the art of tightrope dancing. And now, after the death of Zhora, his master, HovsepÂ’s choice has only become more difficult.
In a rich and colourful language this film will try to find out why artists who were once treated like gods may soon be forgotten. It will do so by showing the beauty of a fading art form in a country that is balancing on a tightrope itself.
