In an attempt to bury his dark past a young man, Jack, agrees to take care of his father's home on the edge of a remote lake. At first it's a welcome retreat from a life healing from something best left in the past, with welcoming neighbors and Happy Hour at sunset on the beach every night. But when his distractions disappear, his memories take hold. And as the reasons why he's run away begin to reveal themselves, his already tenuous grip on reality starts to disintegrate. On top of that, things start happening that he can't explain. Imagination? Forces of Nature? Ghosts? An intruder? Is his mind playing tricks on him - or is there something far more sinister at play? Fighting his increasing sense of isolation and in a desperate attempt to retrieve his sanity, Jack rebels against his loner instincts and revisits the tiny local town, the closest place for miles. There he meets Ruby, a daunting young woman with a past she, too, is trying to escape. Ruby takes no prisoners and Jack is no exception - and the subject of what happened to her legs is clearly out of bounds. But after a first, abrasive meeting, the two of them find themselves forming an unexpected and unlikely friendship, and little by little these two damaged people begin to allow themselves a sense of safety and trust. But it's only after their friendship deepens that things start to really unravel as time, memory and reality begin to disintegrate - and eventually reveal the very things they are running away from - a revelation that will tear their friendship apart and threaten to destroy them.
